Jack Matthew Elam

Independent Watchmaker

Growing up I was always interested in learning how things worked and would gravitate towards work that revolved around creativity and using my hands. Once I discovered watchmaking I instantly became infatuated and obsessed with the art.

It wasn’t until this discovery had I found what I was supposed to do in life.

The Wandering Hour - Series I - Limited to eight pieces

Inspired by the wandering hour pocket watch created by Luc Monnet.

The complication.

Despite the history of the wandering hour, it is something that is rarely found in modern watchmaking. Excluding URWERK who use the complication extensively, the wandering hour remains at large, untouched.

Proud and at the centre of the dial, the carriage of my wandering hour will be a mixture of materials and high-end finishes while a fully jewelled construction reduces the friction and increases the accuracy of the watch.

The base calibre.

At the heart of this wandering hour lies a modified BNB Concept movement. Extensive reverse engineering has enabled each component to be documented for the future sustain-ability and repair-ability of these timepieces.

In order to harmonize with the design DNA of JMElam Watches, new mainplates and bridges will be created to maintain fluidity amongst future releases, as well as an in-house free-sprung balance wheel to regulate the time.
